A note from me...  Br. Bill was reading our revamped District Traveler, even on his last day of his passing! I am certain very pleased for this part of his legacy...an AHEPA award electronic publication that he exceptionally edited for over 35 years, and which he retired from just a year and a half ago!

Lt. Governor District 21

William H. Christie (Bill)

William H. Christie (Bill), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted member of the Greek community, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Bill was born in November 1930 in Spokane, Washington, the youngest of six children of William and Elizabeth Papamanalopoulos Christie.  The family later settled in Modesto, California, where Bill grew up working in family-owned grocery stores.  As a talented athlete, he excelled at Modesto High School and Modesto Junior College before pursuing his education at the University of California, Berkeley, studying biochemistry and earning his degree in 1953.

After completing his studies, Bill served in the U.S. Army stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco.

Bill first met Georgia Gianopulos as a child, when they lived on the same street and attended the same church.  Their friendship grew into a lifelong love, and they married in 1952, beginning a partnership that would span decades.  Together, they built a wonderful life in the Bay Area, eventually settling in Campbell to raise their three children.

Family remained at the heart of Bill’s life.  He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren's accomplishments and happiness, and his definition of family extended far beyond them to include siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.  Thoughout his life, he cherished celebrations of holidays and milestones, family travels, reunions at Eagle Crest and elsewhere with his large and loving Greek family.

Professionally, Bill began his career at Cutter Laboratories in Berkeley.  His talent, leadership, and work ethic quickly set him apart, and in 1960, he became one of the company’s first production managers.  He later joined early Silicon Valley companies Memorex Corporation and Xidex, where he played a crucial role in establishing new production facilities.  In the 1970s, Bill embraced his entrepreneurial spirit and founded his own printing business.

Bill was deeply committed to his community.  As a devoted member of the Greek Orthodox Church of San Jose, he played a significant role in its growth and development.  His generosity, leadership, and unwavering devotion to the Church left an indelible mark on the community.  He was instrumental in helping launch and support the Church’s food festival, which became a cherished tradition and a beloved city wide event.  Additionally, he established the Father Berris Memorial Golf Tournament, an annual tradition spanning more than two decades that celebrates brotherhood and friendship.  Bill was also active in several other Greek American organizations, most notably serving in leadership roles of the Bay Area Order of Ahepa.

Those who knew Bill will remember his warmth, determination, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the people he loved.  He lived a life marked by hard work, integrity, faith, and service.  His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he helped build, and the countless lives he touched.

Bill is survived by his children, Libby Brost (Bob), Lou Christie, and Stephanie Christie (Bob Jones), and three granddaughters, Morgan, Gia and Riley.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Georgia
